I strive to provide the fairest and simplest pricing in the business, and I want you to know that up front. Whether
you submit fiction, poetry, reportage, or nonfiction, the damage is the same:
Substantive
and mechanical editing: $6.00 per page ($24.00 per hour).
Mechanical editing only: $3.00 per
page ($24.00 per hour).
Mechanical editing includes textual markups of grammatical and mechanical
issues throughout your document. Awkward phrasing or structure will be pointed out but not necessarily amended, while spelling
errors and misplaced commas will be duly corrected.
Substantive editing includes mechanical editing
as well as detailed textual suggestions for revision, and a front page of general editorial commentary (if necessary) is added
to your document before returning it to you. Such elements as structure, flow, consistency, and clarity are taken into account
with a substantive edit.
My corporate rates for the above services are $7.00 per
page for substantive editing and $3.50 per page for mechanical editing ($28 per hour). Onsite editing is priced at $38 per
hour.
The Editing House considers writing assignments on a case-by-case basis, but if you’re
a student, please don’t expect me to compose your term papers for you. I'm happy to edit them, but I won’t
write them.
If you ever have a question or concern about any aspect of an editing
job, before or after I've returned it to you, don't hesitate to drop me a line at email@editinghouse.com. Chances are it can be resolved very easily.
Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word and formatted as follows:
1”
top and bottom margins
1” left and right margins
Times
New Roman, 12 pt. font
Double-spaced
Title and contact information
should be incorporated into the first page of the document. Please, no separate title pages.
Editorial
remarks are generally made using the "Track Changes" feature of Word, which allows you to accept or reject any given
suggestion.
Hard-copy manuscripts are also acceptable if they meet all other formatting
requirements, but additional time may be needed to complete such jobs.
IMPORTANT NOTE! For simplicity
of billing, the page count will be based on the actual number of pages in the document, whether they are completely filled
with text/content or not.
